Can I Have My Dark Colored Fillings Replaced with Tooth Colored Fillings?

Have you ever looked at a picture of yourself mid-laugh and cringed at all the dark spots on your back teeth? If you’ve had any amount of dental work completed then this is likely a familiar scenario. In the past, the most effective and long-lasting fillings consisted of a dental amalgam (mixture) made from a combination of metals. The result was a filling that looked dark silver in color. This dark material got the job done but was not esthetically pleasing. Today, advances in technology have provided us with an alternative option to the dark fillings of the past. That alternative option is the tooth colored filling.

Are tooth colored fillings high quality?

Tooth colored fillings are now being widely used because they are both esthetically pleasing and effective. You can expect high quality and long-lasting benefits from tooth colored fillings. Improvements in technology have made it possible for patients to get the fillings they need without having to deal with the unsightly dark color associated with the traditional type of fillings.

Can I have my dark colored filling replaced with tooth colored fillings?

If you have old fillings that need to be replaced you can choose to have tooth colored fillings as the replacement. Over time, the old amalgam fillings can begin to fail resulting in the need for replacement. This can lead to discomfort and often prompts people to visit the dentist for repairs. In this situation, you can choose to have your dark fillings replaced with tooth colored fillings. If your fillings are in good shape but you hate the way they look tooth colored fillings are still an option. You can talk to your dentist about removing the dark fillings and replacing them for esthetic purposes.

What type of dentist should I see for tooth colored fillings?

A dentist with experience in cosmetic procedures can help you replace your dark colored fillings with tooth colored ones. One of the main elements that cosmetic dentistry helps patients with is the look of their smile. If you are unhappy with any element of how your smile looks, a top notch dentist with cosmetic experience can help. This type of dentist can provide a wide range of procedures from tooth colored fillings all the way to dental implants.

Your smile is a big part of how you present yourself to the world. If you feel less-than-confident about your smile it can impact your interactions with others. Having dark colored fillings replaced with tooth colored fillings is a relatively small procedure that can have a big impact on how you feel about your teeth. If you are interested in this-or other esthetic procedures-you can start the process by scheduling an appointment with a dentist who is experienced with cosmetic procedures.
